Very good point. In this situation you should be able to swing the club with index finger pointing at the ground and thumb up in the air while the rest of the fingers grip the shaft. It’s almost as if you are making the ‘GUN’ notion with index and thumb while gripping the club.

Good video very educational. I will say this… Hogan used an overlapping grip and his right hand gripped with his fingers however, not as you suggested. Gripping with the index finger creates too much right hand dominance, if you grip with the two middle fingers of the right had in a interlocking grip you can swing without the thumb and forefinger on the grip to give your left hand the upmost control

Keep in mind, a grip change could feel strange for a while and it may have a temporary negative impact on your ability to play, but it could pay off dividends if you stick with it. Also while an overlap or interlock grip may favor certain hand sizes, you can still use a different style because it may just feel better. Grip is largely about feel, any anything that can help you to feel more comfortable will help you to focus on other swing aspects and not fidget with the grip.

I’ve been working …
I’ve been working on my swing hard the past 2 weeks – things like tempo, wrist , waist and shoulder turn, alignment, and swing plane. Most recently I’ve been hitting a hook and it was getting frustrating because I didn’t want to undo any of the things I was working on to fix the hook.
I realized yesterday my grip was way too strong (almost 4 knuckles) and if a simple grip change could fix me, I’ll be elated.
